Home Grown By B was born from a mother’s determination to find a new way, a healthy way. When my daughter, developed eczema, I did what most mothers would do – I searched for something that would help her. After endless products traditionally recommended for eczema and sensitive skin, we found that most products were expensive, ineffective or only provided temporary relief. The heaps of products began to feel unsustainable and harmful to both my child and the environment.
What began as a mother’s desire to find effective and sustainable skincare for her child has now turned into a skincare collection built on the same values that started it all – care, simplicity, accessibility and trust. Our products are thoughtfully formulated using carefully selected ingredients, with a strong focus on traditional ingredients and methods that have stood the test of time. Home Grown By B is a proudly South African, black, women-owned business that hopes to bring safe, sustainable and special products to you and your family.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
At Home Grown By B, we believe that every ingredient should earn its place. We don’t formulate our products based on trends or add ingredients simply because they are expected or popular. Every ingredient is carefully considered based on purpose, effectiveness and sustainability. We believe that good formulation is about more than what goes into every bar, jar or bottle. It is about how the product performs, how it feels on the skin, how it fits into everyday life and whether it is safe to use, both for you and the environment. We consider nourishment, cleansing and protection alongside texture, absorption, lather, stability, and skin feel. Our philosophy is built around purpose over trends, performance without unnecessary and unsafe complexity and mindfulness with practicality.

Tallow Soap Collection
Our soaps are made using a traditional cold-processed method, transforming carefully selected fats and oils into true soap through saponification. Beef tallow forms the foundation of our bars, contributing hardness, longevity and a rich, creamy lather. Coconut oil complements the tallow by bringing cleansing power and generous bubbles, creating a balanced bar designed for effective everyday washing. Making the soap is only the beginning. Every bar is allowed to cure for a minimum of four weeks. During this time, water gradually evaporates and the soap becomes harder, milder in use and longer lasting. The result is a firm, slow-wearing bar with a rich and satisfying lather — traditional soap thoughtfully formulated for everyday life.

Tallow – Our foundation bar. A simple tallow-based soap designed for everyday cleansing with a creamy, satisfying lather and a hard, long-lasting bar.
Pure – Our most uncomplicated bar, created for those who prefer their skincare without added fragrance or unnecessary extras. Simple, purposeful, cleansing built around our tallow soap base.
Rooted – Our signature Rooted character in a traditional tallow soap — bringing together our nourishing soap base with the warm, familiar experience of the Rooted collection.
Turmeric – Our tallow soap base enriched with turmeric, incorporating a traditionally valued botanical ingredient into a rich, everyday cleansing bar.
Activated Charcoal – Activated charcoal is incorporated into our tallow base to create a distinctive cleansing bar while maintaining the hardness and creamy lather of our traditional soap.
Ibomvu Clay – Made with Ibomvu red clay, bringing an earthy, distinctly South African ingredient into our traditional tallow soap collection.
Pink Himalayan Salt– A speciality salt bar formulated for exceptional hardness and longevity, with Pink Himalayan salt creating a distinctive dense, creamy lather and bathing experience.

Tallow Body Wash
Our tallow body wash is handcrafted using traditional soap-making methods, transforming beef tallow and coconut oil into true liquid soap through the process of saponification. What makes our formulation different is our dual-lye method. By carefully balancing potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide during soap making, we create a naturally rich, fuller-bodied liquid soap without relying on conventional synthetic surfactant or thickening systems to create its texture. Tallow forms the nourishing heart of the formulation, while coconut oil contributes to cleansing and lather, creating an uncomplicated everyday body wash rooted in traditional soap making.

Whipped Tallow Body Butter
Our Whipped Tallow Body Butter is a rich, concentrated moisturiser made with a carefully selected blend of nourishing fats and oils. Unlike conventional lotions and creams, our body butter contains no added water and requires no emulsifiers. This allows us to keep the formulation beautifully simple while also simplifying its preservation requirements. At the heart of every jar is beef tallow, chosen for its rich fatty-acid profile and ability to soften, condition and protect dry skin. Shea butter adds further richness and nourishment, while avocado oil provides a silky emollient feel and is naturally rich in skin-conditioning fatty acids. Vitamin E helps condition the skin while supporting the stability of the oils in the formulation. The result is a concentrated body butter that melts beautifully into the skin, leaving it soft and nourished without a heavy, greasy or sticky finish.

Herbal Hair Food
Our Whipped Herbal Hair Food begins with tallow slowly infused with a carefully selected blend of traditional botanicals, creating a rich conditioning base for dry hair and scalp. The infused tallow is blended with shea butter, castor oil and grapeseed oil, then whipped to create a soft, easy-to-apply hair food designed to nourish the hair while helping to seal in moisture. Our infusion brings together moringa, henna, cassia, ziziphus, amla and fenugreek — botanicals traditionally valued in hair-care practices. Rather than simply adding herbal powders to the finished product, the botanicals are infused into the tallow and carefully strained, allowing the oil-soluble components of the herbs to become part of the nourishing base.
Tallow & shea butter provide the rich conditioning foundation of the formula. Castor Oil adds richness and helps coat and condition the hair. Grapeseed Oil provides a lighter emollient oil that balances the richer fats and improves spread-ability. Rosemary essential oil completes our botanical formulation.

Body Polish/ Body Scrub
Our Whipped Tallow Body Polish was created to bring together effective exfoliation and rich nourishment without the heavy, oily finish often associated with traditional body scrubs. A carefully balanced blend of sugar and fine pink Himalayan salt provides physical exfoliation, helping to lift away dry, rough skin and leave the skin feeling smoother and refreshed. Beef tallow forms the nourishing base of the polish, conditioning the skin as you exfoliate so that it feels soft and moisturised rather than dry or stripped. Just as importantly, we considered what happens when the product is rinsed away. The formulation is designed to help the oils disperse with water, allowing the polish to rinse cleanly from the skin rather than leaving behind a heavy, greasy coating. The result is a body polish that exfoliates, nourishes and rinses beautifully, leaving skin soft, smooth and comfortable.

Lip Balm
A rich, anhydrous lip balm handcrafted with beef tallow, beeswax and castor oil to soften, condition and protect dry lips. Tallow provides a deeply nourishing base, while beeswax creates a light protective barrier that helps reduce moisture loss. Castor oil adds glide and conditioning, leaving the lips feeling smooth and comfortable without the need for a long list of ingredients.
